Overview of Altria's Gen AI Initiative

Altria initiated an internal generative AI initiative, aiming to leverage Capgemini's functional design team to develop gen AI solutions across multiple teams, driving business value and aligning with clear objectives.

Key Challenges

Consistency, utilization & user alignment

  • Existing AI applications were fragmented, offering inconsistent user experiences across different platforms. This lack of cohesion created confusion, reducing user enagagement and overall application utilization - ultimately diminishing the value of the product.
  • Features were often misaligned with user goals - some were irrelevant, while others, though useful, were poorly placed, leading to confusion.

Impact

Establishing consistency and data driven CX across Altria's AI applications

  • Design System for consistency - Initiated a design system for Altria Gen AI use cases as we started to establish consistency between applications. This led to efficient design and development cycles, reducing the use case completion time by ~40%.
  • Shift to data driven CX - we relied on workshops and data derived from users to make product decisions. Increasing user engagement by ~20%.

Learnings

1. Advocating for better UX - Sometimes businesses view UX as a disruption rather than a way to increase efficiency or bring value. I faced a similar challenge with this project. I tried connecting UX to measurable outcomes like increased user engagement and pipeline efficiency which helped me position UX as a critical business driver.
